Negative emotions hurt us first

I remember reading this a few years ago and the simplicity and truth of this observation is profound! Any negative emotion be it anger, anxiety, jealousy, hatred etc hurt us first. Just the physical symptoms like the blood pressure raising, heart beat increasing, indigestion to quote a few, apart from the mental and emotional stress.

So over time with a bit of self awareness and auto-suggestion, one can gradually be in total control these emotions.

Practicing inclusiveness helps with the negation of the cause of these emotions. When one can see oneself as being part of the universe and the universe being part of themselves, and not differentiate based on sex, color, country, religion, region etc but instead be loving, caring and compassionate then it becomes so much easier remove the cause for unhappiness. Yoga is being able to see yourself past the mind and ego.
